UBC Student Wins Top Co-op Honours in BC/Yukon for Fourth Straight Year

Bethanea Chou: 2022 BC/Yukon University Co-op Student of the Year

As a Human Resources Project Coordinator, Bethanea co-created a 1-year leadership training program for all 1,000+ Yukon Government employees in her department. By developing 20+ hours of curriculum and delivering the initial in-person training, she leaves a legacy that will help Yukon Government employees reach their leadership potential for years to come.

Currently, through 3 prominent roles at the UBC Sauder School of Business, Bethanea offers career development coaching appointments to 4,700 students, shapes the career fundamentals core course curriculum for all 1,000 second-year business students, and mentors new co-op students in small groups.

It’s the fourth year in a row that a UBC student has been recognized with this award, following Science student Carly Pistawka in 2021, Finance and Business Technology Management student Anton Bondarev in 2020, and Economics student Bashara Hussain in 2019.

ACE-WIL BC/Yukon Student of the Year Awards honour students who display high levels of achievement throughout their work-integrated learning placement. There are four categories, including University Co-op Student. Students are selected based on impact to the partner organization, student (self), and post-secondary institution.
