The Co-op Program opened my eyes to a path that I originally did not consider as a postgraduate option. I recommend this to anyone that wants to know more about the options available or the working environment of their desired dream jobs. This is also a great opportunity to learn more about yourself and what you have to offer.
Getting the opportunity to help a student in the position that I was in many years ago, is something that I really looked forward to doing, and we’ve had such great success with them that we’ve hired a co-op student every year for the last 15 years.
Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada has employed UBC Science Co-op students on an ongoing basis to assist with laboratory and field activities…Students have been extremely helpful supporting honey bee colony maintenance in the field, sample collection and processing, and visual and molecular diagnosis of diseases using a variety of field and laboratory techniques…UBC Science Co-op students are enthusiastic, quick learners and a welcomed addition to our teams.
The partnership that Visier has with UBC has given us access to incredible emerging technical talent. We have pioneered a program that attracts mission-driven students, where we offer extensive access to cutting edge technology, mentorship, and training. We hire students with long-term intentions and have to-date, presented full-time job offers to 52% of them; majority having come from UBC!
Co-op shaped the way I engaged with my classes and after each work term, brought me back with a different perspective on what I was learning. Through Co-op I was able to gain insight into three very different work environments, learning not only about the things that I enjoyed and discovering new passions, but also giving a taste of the things I did not. It was this aspect of my Co-op experience that I found most valuable. My engineering Co-op defined my degree.
The UBC co-op program was single handedly, the most important course I took during my undergrad for the development of my professional career. My five co-op terms with UBC, have helped determine who I am, what type of work and geographic location I want to begin my training as an engineer.
Our longstanding and valued partnership with UBC Co-op is built on connecting students with opportunities to find their purpose. Interns are placed across our various lines of business and work within cross-functional teams, making real contributions to the bottom line. We have dozens of UBC students join us each cohort and each one has played a vital role in shaping our SAP Internship Experience Project into a rich community that’s building experienced, inclusive, and dynamic leaders.
Co-op gave me the experience that propelled me into grad school and my future career. From Singapore to Kazakhstan, I developed diverse skills and experience all around the world. I encourage every student to join co-op and maximize the value of their time at UBC.
